Repairs or Redoing Old Mohair
At times, models need repairs or old mohair replaced. I am just beginning to explore this avenue of model horse services and will be updating what I offer as I develop those skills. Currently, I have done one major repair on a resin that arrived to me for a paint job with a severely broken tail. Somehow, I think it might have slightly shifted and the tail twisted in the box as the break looked like the tail had rotated somehow despite excellent packing by the customer. The tail was drilled out from the top and a new support wire (galvanized nail with head cut off) was put into place and sealed in with the super glue/baking soda method and then sculpted over with Gapoxio to blend back into the original surface.

Re-hairing the Beast
Adding new mohair is no different than doing it for the first time around. It's just as labor intensive. However, for those, like me, who love the look of a model with mohair manes and tails, periodically they need some tending to by way of replacement. In the below documented case, a model had been bought back and the original artist written to without reply. I took on the job of replacing the original mohair since the second owner didn't seem to take care of the model or added inappropriate products to the hair resulting in damage. I was able to successfully wash the tail of all the styling product and save it. The mane however was a different story. Whatever had been used did something to the glue holding the mane on as well as being so "goopy" that washing didn't save it. So, I went about the task of completely removing the mane (which didn't take much since the original glued hair was lifting as is) and with some water it all just flaked right off leaving the paint job underneath luckily not marred.
