Like Melissa, I started in oils as well and experienced the same issues. People think you cannot paint a model horse with a lot of shading or highlighting but it just isn't true. And I will admit, I did take to chopping up some models for extensive remakes, but haven't perfected redoing the anatomy accurately.
We all start somewhere and this horse isn't all that bad compared to some of my first pieces!
What is your favorite color to paint on a regular horse? When it comes to regular horses – I get stuck in a rut – I do really excellent bays but I struggle with every other color.
I am a proud owner of one of Melissa's Thestral foals! He's so different from anything else in my horse collection and I love how she painted his eyes to glow in the dark! And yes! Diving into something else is a great way to get out of the regular horse rut! I cannot wait to share the new thestral Melissa is working on for me!
