Commissions
Booking for 2024 will be changing!
If you request information regarding a paint slot and do not hear from me within a few days, please email me directly at [email protected]
In an attempt to deal with ever increasing demands, I am suspending commissions to the general public until further notice. I will be taking very limited requests with preference to those I have worked successfully with in the past. If I have not worked with you, please feel free to email me to get on my wait list as additional slots may become available sooner when I completely catch up on commissions and do a few pending projects I've wanted to do. Announcements will be made via first come first served basis announced to members of Groups.io and then to my Facebook page before going out to the hobby at large via Model Horse Sales Pages. I reserve the right to refuse to work with people who are not in good standing within the model horse hobby or whom I have had poor dealings with before.
Prep and Finishwork Services Models are prepped and painted with quality primers, sealers, acrylics, pastels, pigments, and pencils depending on the desired effect in the finished piece. All paint work is done by hand with quality artist brushes. Roaning and appy/sabino or fleabit models are all painstakingly done one hair at a time and is therefore very labor intensive but worth every hour invested.
Prices stated below for finish work do not include shipping or cost of the body.
At this time, I do not offer stripping for repainting. There are a number of excellent preppers that I can recommend to you.
Due to changes in formulas, I will not accept new Breyer and Stone plastic models primed in Krylon products.
Note regarding prepping by other artists: I will gladly reduce the cost of your model's paint fee should a model arrive, and be to my satisfaction, fully prepped. I am very particular about the foundation of the model. If I receive a prepped model and feel it is not up to my standard therefore requiring additional prepping, a fee of $50-$80 will be added to the cost of the model.
Current Painting/Prep Fees for Model Horses:
All prices are determined on an individual basis and I request that you send me a detailed description with images either via email or hardcopy along with your mailing address when requesting information on my paint services.
Prepping is an ESTIMATE only which is incorporated into the base price of the finishwork. HOWEVER if a model requires additional work (for example, an old Eberl resin full of pinholes that need filling) a fee will be added to the cost of the model once I have it in hand and can assess it. Standard prep includes removal and filling of seams, logos on plastics, and priming with quality primers. I do not fix sculptural flaws unless requested and if it is within my skill set.
Basic Solid colors WITH prep:
Traditional solids $325
Classics and Traditional foals $250
LB/Pebbles/Venti $175
Chips/SM $90
for appy or paint colors or dappling/fleabites or heavily roaned models, price will be determined depending on complexity and size of model (email for quote). All fleabites, roaning, and appy/paint patterns are all hand applied and done hair by hair. Prices can range from an additional $25 to $1000 on top of the base color cost depending on work requested.
Final Finish Options:
I offer high gloss or flat matte finish options for the body as well as high gloss or matte for the feet - please specify when ordering
Additional Options:
I currently do not offer any major customizing (repositioning body parts) other than that involved in prepping for hair if the case calls for it (an additional fee will may be attached).
Adding veins, correct gender parts, carving out ears and hooves is $25 to $50 extra per service (email for quote)
Hairing:
I use quality Mohair and Suri Alpaca for hairing all models and have a small collection of viscose for Stablemate sized models or fantasy pieces. Prices for adding real hair takes into account that I will have to order on demand usually from Horsing Around in the UK or from various vendors on Etsy depending on who has what color and also for the work needed to apply it. I do either a trench method or "Rio Rondo" method of application on the neck and may request if you have a preference. Both are well accepted in the hobby. Models that need extensive reconstruction to prepare for hair (removal of tail and tail bone added and/or heavily maned models that need necks reconstructed) - please email for a quote as this may require an additional $25 and up depending on work needing to be done will be applied.
Adding Mohair on traditional and classic models - add $175 for trads/classics, $100 for smaller scales
At this time, I do not offer hair braiding.
Metal Horse Shoes:
These are ordered from Rio Rondo and prices are their costs and shipping.
